President Assad awards General Ali Aslan, the former Chief of Staff, the Syrian Medal of Merit, of the Excellent Class
General Aslan is one of the most prominent leaders of the Syrian Arab Army. He was born in 1932. He held several military positions, including the commander of the Syrian forces operating in Lebanon, the chief of the General Staff in Syria, and then an advisor in the Presidency of the Republic in 2003 until today.
He joined the Military College in 1952, and was one of the most prominent leaders in the Tishreen Liberation War in 1973, and contributed greatly to achieving victory at the time.
During his tenure as Deputy Chief of Staff, the armed forces confronted the Muslim Brotherhood groups in Syria and the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, and had a key role in the battle to unify Beirut in 1990.
He authored many important military books that are being studied today and developed many military theories that proved their usefulness during the battles waged by the Syrian Arab Army against the Israeli enemy and against terrorism.
